Eyes Wide Open, Splunk University

1 minute read

Here I am, going to my 2nd .conf. It’s at Disney. They say it’s a ‘Magical Place.’ I’ll test that theory. Woe is me, before the magic comes the University. Classes, classes, you just can’t get away always have to go back and learn something. I signed up for a 2 day boot-camp for ITSI (not the spider,) Splunk It Service Intelligence. Bright eyed and bushy tailed at the crack of dawn on the first day. The instructor, Bob Walden, he’s good. A real smooth talker.  He speaks all day long. Luckily I’m professional services. I know how to stay on task. The first day was intense, but I think I have ITSI figured out. It is a much more “artsy” approach to Splunk than I had imagined. That night I went looking for the magic everyone talks about, stayed out late, and that might have been a mistake. Start of the second day, the coffee is not strong enough, and my eyes are a little tired. Bob starts the day hard, right where he left off. He keeps pounding that Splunk knowledge into my head. The second day was just as intense as the first. In end I feel “learned.” I also might have a new work obsession with Splunk ITSI.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my first experience at Splunk University as much I had going through it. Jokes aside. I learned a lot in a short amount of time(long days and lots of material;) the instructor was really good and answered all my questions; the labs provided a decent challenge; and between classes got to see my coworkers (which doesn’t happen that much anymore with all my traveling.) Splunk University is an experience on its own, I think everyone would enjoy.
